Attending your first United Soccer Coaches Convention can feel overwhelming at first. That’s why we’ve created this first time attendee guide to help you navigate your Convention experience. Even our attendees that have been to 10+ Conventions all started somewhere! Check out this blog post detailing an attendee’s first time at Convention and how he navigated the 2018 Convention. 

Before You Register

Membership: The United Soccer Coaches Convention is a benefit of membership with United Soccer Coaches. If you are not a current member, a one-year membership fee ($125) will be added to your registration. If you are unsure of your current member status, please contact the Member Services Team at membership@unitedsoccercoaches.org.

Before You Travel

Housing & Travel Information: United Soccer Coaches has secured the best rates with the closest proximity to the Kansas City Convention Center. Click here to view the 2022 Convention Housing Map. 

NOTE: You will receive the link to the Hotel information AFTER your complete your registration.

Plan Dates of Trip: If possible, it is a good idea to arrive early on Day 1 of the Convention to register and to get familiar with the Kansas City Convention Center for easy navigation in between sessions.

Pack Appropriately: The Convention is a week full of events of varying types. It is important to pack for the events you are participating in, whether that includes educational sessions, meetings, and/or socials events. 

Before You Arrive

Plan for Diplomas: Research the Diplomas and Certificates you are going to go for.

When You Arrive

Use the Convention App:
Utilize the United Soccer Coaches mobile app for the most up-to-date information on the Convention, sessions, presenters, and what your fellow coaches are up to!

Keep Connecting: Use the official 2022 Convention hashtag to get updates and to see what’s going on throughout the weekend. Then keep up with everyone and everything that’s going on by following the United Soccer Coaches on social media.

Find Registration and Check-in: You can usually expect a line at registration on the first day, so plan on arriving AT LEAST 30 minutes prior to the start of the Convention.

Learn From Experts: Attend the First-Time Attendees Session and utilize the Red Aprons for additional help during the event.

Red Aprons: The “Red Aprons” are selected individuals who represent the legacy of the Association. Red Aprons provide assistance during Convention registration and at the member pavilion. Red Apron members are selected from the group of individuals that have received at least two of the following association awards: Past Presidency, Honor Award, Hall of Fame, or Long-Term Service Award.

While You’re at Convention

Observe Signage: Be sure to check out the signage located throughout the Convention Center.

Take Advantage of Networking Opportunities: The United Soccer Coaches Convention is the largest coaches gathering in the world, take advantage of it and meet other coaches from around the country and from around the world. Be sure to bring a pen and a notepad to take notes during the educational sessions and always carry business cards – you never know who you’ll bump into at Convention!
