People are your competitive advantage. And people skills is the missing topic in coaching license education. How a coach interacts and communicates with athletes has a huge impact on whether that player reaches his or her full potential. At the heart of coaching is the ability to connect with another human being and bring out the best in them. Are you maximizing the impact you can have?

The How & Why to Building Meaningful Connections

Let’s re-calibrate and go back to the beginning. What are basic human emotional needs? What do humans want in connection with other humans? Let’s be a human being first and cultivate relationships that help provide these answers for players.

The Good, Bad, and Ugly in Giving & Receiving Feedback

This can be both fantastic at times and frustrating at times. We can help players receive feedback better by helping them understand where their own perspectives & interpretations originate and how their own thoughts and feelings can distort messages. Discovering what’s inside the micro-seconds of a conversation can change everything for both the giver and receiver.

A Reality Check: Helping an Athlete Move Past Their Perception

Let’s be honest, at some point you have said to yourself, “this player has no concept of reality!” How do we navigate this difficult interaction without it getting messy and going nowhere? These conversations can be radically honest and at the same time helping the player process the truth about their skill and scope of contribution.

Tips & Tricks for Effective Individual Meetings

We’ll unpack my structure for meetings and considerations for the best environment. Beware…I have been known to move furniture in offices! Meetings can always be finely tuned for more effectiveness. I’ll share my thought processes in preparing for meetings and how I always try to finish a meeting. Finally, you will hear what to STOP doing and what to START doing!

Practical Skills for Reading a Person

Do you ever wish you had the ability to read someone’s mind! I wish that all the time! There are certain cues we can look for that will give us more information about what someone is thinking or feeling. We’ll also look at the clues of whether someone is telling the truth or not!

Asking Strategic Questions to Build a Character Profile (Great for Recruiting!)

I consider myself a question expert! Thus, great conversations happen for me. I’m constantly asking questions that give me bite size pieces of information about other areas not even in the conversation. I know, sounds confusing but it’s not. Be curious and listen for what’s beneath the surface to connect the dots. I’ll give you groups of questions that correlate to a character trait we look for in high performing people. This can be a game changer for college recruiting!

    A coach’s journal is included. This is my gift to you to plan the next actions and forward movement. A “connect” time is scheduled during every session where you will have a chance to dialogue with other coaches, find solutions together, and gather ideas to implement. This day is less about a transfer of information and more about a transformation in how you approach individual meetings and connecting with others. Do you want to get more out of your athletes?     Leadership Coach and Team Architect

    Donna has coached soccer for over 25 years at the youth, high school & college levels. She spent 13 years at University of Central Florida and helped build UCF into an NCAA Division One Top 25 program. The main catalyst for this high performance and success was a focus on what Donna calls the “invisible and intrinsic side of the game”. In 2013 Donna shifted away from the x’s and o’s in order to devote one hundred percent of her time to consulting. Through intense focus on leadership, culture, and personal development she has helped coaches, teams, and athletes build foundations and strategies to achieve greatness.

    Coaches have an immense impact in a player’s life. That is why Donna is passionate about educating coaches on how to connect better with players and empower them to become strong human beings. The beliefs and behaviors of your players, especially what they believe about themselves will change your culture and your success. Winning is a habit. If coaches help players “win in life” this will translate to their performance on the field.

    Donna is coaching coaches & athletes at all levels and is consulting with teams in multiple sports. Every year Donna has teams competing in post-season, winning conference championships and an exciting 2013 National Champion and 2014 Final Four participant. Donna wants every person she encounters to find sustained success in life and game.

    Donna is a Founding Member and certified Leadership Coach with the John Maxwell Coaching Team. She has been an instructor for U.S. Soccer Education Courses and is a regular speaker at the United Soccer Coaches Convention. This past year Donna teamed up with #SoccerChat who hosts the “Dose of Donna Fishter” monthly podcast.
